Live after Digital Innovation Session 1

Some thoughts right after the first session of the 24-25 edition of Digital Innovation at Solvay's AMISM program. An edition redesigned around applications of what I preach on AI and education.

Today marks the launch of the newly redesigned 24-25 edition of our Digital Innovation course at Solvay’s AMISM program—a format that embraces a fresh, interactive approach to learning and reflects a transformative view on education in the age of AI.

In our new format, we've bid farewell to traditional essays and lecture-heavy sessions, without lowering the bar on the depth of content. Instead, we've reimagined the classroom as a dynamic workshop where ideas are built collaboratively and the learning process takes center stage. Students now engage in lively, in-person sessions that are flipped and interactive. These sessions are designed not only to introduce new concepts, frameworks, tools, and practices, but also to create space for exploring how these elements shape our understanding of real-world case studies.

This shift is inspired by a core belief: AI, like the calculator in mathematics, isn’t a shortcut to bypassing learning but a powerful cognitive catalyst. Just as calculators allowed students to focus on understanding complex mathematical concepts rather than getting bogged down by routine calculations, our course encourages students to harness AI as a partner in their learning journey. AI tools act as sounding boards, sparking discussions, prompting deeper inquiry, and offering multiple perspectives on problem-solving.

Here’s what you can expect from our new approach:

  • Interactive and Collaborative Learning: By replacing static essays with workshop-style sessions and group discussions, we’re fostering a learning environment where ideas are openly shared and refined. This process-centric approach helps students better understand the “how” and “why” behind digital innovation.

  • Emphasis on the Process: Instead of judging learning solely by the final output, our assessment now focuses on the thought process. Through regular check-ins and discussions, students document their evolving understanding, ensuring that the learning journey itself becomes the most valuable outcome.

  • Harnessing AI as a Learning Tool: Embracing AI is not about bypassing genuine intellectual effort; it’s about enhancing it. Whether it’s generating initial ideas, summarizing complex topics, or offering diverse solution pathways, AI is integrated as a supportive tool that amplifies our collective cognitive abilities.

By integrating these principles into our course, we are preparing students for a world where the fusion of human ingenuity and AI-driven insights defines professional and intellectual success. This redesign isn’t just about keeping pace with technological change—it’s about rethinking what it means to learn and think critically in today’s fast-evolving landscape. As part of that effort, I also configured a specialized GPT with advanced configuration about all of the frameworks, methods and tools taught in this course, so as to support the learning process of students.

I’ll try to share some thoughts on these aspects while delivering this course in the next few weeks. Feel free to join me for my next live video in the app
